Senior housing project goes before Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission

A Pella company's plans to build a three-story, 54-unit senior housing cooperative in Beaverdale is on the agenda for Thursday's Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission meeting. The building is planned for the former Rice Elementary School property at 3001 Beaver Ave., where neighbors in the past have attempted to block development plans in order to preserve green space. Ewing Land Development & Services LLC, which has built several senior living communities in Greater Des Moines, has purchased the property and plans to build the cooperative.
