The U.S. Department of Agriculture spent $498 million in rural development funds to help people buy homes and expand businesses, according to a release. The spending included a $1 million economic development loan that helped C & L Cos. of Urbandale build a warehouse, distribution center and test track in Warren County. Another $280,000 grant was used to improve a road near the C & L facility. The company manufactures aftermarket motorcycle components. Rural development funds also helped 2,600 rural Iowa families purchase a home.
