Center on Sustainable Communities (COSC) and the Iowa Association of Realtors (IAR) will have two workshops on new "green" fields in the multiple listing service, the state's largest real estate database. The workshops for real estate agents, appraisers, homeowners, lenders and developers are Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 at at the IAR, 1370 N.W. 114th St., Suite 100, in Clive. The Des Moines Area Association of Realtors (DMAAR) in 2011 incorporated "green features" fields in its multiple listing service that allows people to factor in green features in their search for properties. According to the 2012 study "Value of Green Home Labels," green-labeled homes can sell for an average of 9 percent more than others, according to a release. Marc Richmond, a green building expert and a key adviser and educator for COSC since its inception in 2005, will discuss the benefits of regional tools for finding, purchasing and selling green properties.
