Companies forced to cope with tight job markets in metro areas

Companies across the United
States are struggling to fill positions due to low metropolitan jobless rates,
according to an article in Bloomberg. Competition for workers is prompting
businesses to raise wages and recruit from other regions, among other tactics.
John Cyrier, co-founder of the Austin, Texas-based small business Sabre
Commercial Inc., told Bloomberg
that "It is an employee's market," and that "We are definitely
seeing a labor shortage in Austin and central Texas. I see it only getting
worse." Business leaders in Greater Des Moines have identified similar
issues in the state and are trying to attract out-of-state workers through
avenues such as the Home Base Iowa initiative.
