The Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Des Moines is jumping on a national trend of designating certain rooms and floors to women traveling alone, The Des Moines Register reports. When possible, the hotel is booking women who are traveling by themselves on a certain floor in order to offer them a quieter, more secure place to stay. Craig Walter, executive vice president of the Iowa Lodging Association, told the Register he was not aware of any other hotels in Iowa that set aside floors or blocks of rooms for women.
