Lee Enterprises Inc., a
Davenport-based media company that owns five Iowa newspapers among its 50
operations, reported net earnings of $1.4 million, or 3 cents per share, for
the first quarter of 2014, compared with a loss of nearly $6 million, or 12
cents per share, for the year-ago quarter. Mary Junck, chairman and chief
executive officer, said in a statement that the company continues to reduce its
cash costs and benefited from refinancing its debt earlier this year with a
lower interest rates and longer time to pay off the debt.
