Cheers, Iowa. Our state is in the top 10 for per capita consumption of beer, according to a report by the website 24/7 Wall St. According to the report, Iowans consumed 33.2 gallons of beer per drinking-age adult in 2013. That's less than 2009, when Iowans consumed 36 gallons per year, but we also drink more spirits than we did before. Here's a statistic that isn't so cheer-worthy: Iowa has the sixth-highest percentage of binge drinkers in the nation, at 21.7 percent. Nationally, U.S. beer consumption per drinking-age adult is 27.6 gallons. 24/7 Wall St., a financial news website, used information from a brewing industry trade publication called Beer Marketer's Insights for the report.
