Retail and food services sales declined 0.2 percent from April to May, according to an advance report released this morning by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The advance report, a sampling from a full report to be released later, said sales in these areas were at $404.6 billion in May.

Although they dropped from April to May, sales were still 5.7 percent higher than May 2011.
