The U.S. Small Business Administration is encouraging people to participate in Small Business Saturday this weekend. The day is dedicated to supporting small businesses that anchor local communities. The event, which falls between the popular shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, was started in 2010. Last year, the SBA said, nearly 70 million people "shopped small" in their communities for an estimated $5.5 billion in sales to independently owned small businesses.
