Women accountants society changes name
Monday, June 10, 2013 3:09 PM
The American Society of Women Accountants has changed its name to the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance. The change reflects the organization's desire to modernize its approach to effect change in the industry. A 2011 study found that half of newly hired accounting graduates at CPA firms were women, and that 40 percent of all CPAs were women. But women make up just 21 percent of all partners at firms. The Des Moines chapter of Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance will have a June 12 breakfast presentation featuring Kelley Ellis, director of actuarial governance at Aviva USA, as the guest speaker. The event will take place from 7:30 to 10 a.m. To register ($25 for members, $50 for nonmembers), click here.
