Former Des Moines Mayor Richard Olson, credited with bulldogging business leaders to support nearly $1 billion in downtown redevelopment that included building the skywalk system, the Civic Center and the Botanical Center, died in a car accident in Maine Tuesday.

One national group says that the Greater Des Moines housing market has returned to "normal" and another organization predicts that the metro area will be one of the nation's hottest markets for house sales this quarter.

 

3. Still a spot for the Tea Room

Wisconsin-based Alexander Co. will continue with plans to create apartment units and retail spaces at the former Younkers building, which was gutted by fire in March.
