Apple Inc. won more than $1 billion after a jury found Samsung Electronics Co. guilty of patent infringement, Bloomberg reported.
The jury found that Samsung infringed on six of seven patents for its mobile devices. The verdict could lead to a ban on U.S. sales of any mobile products that a judge deems to violate Apple's rights.
Apple won less than half of what it sought in damages, though a U.S. district judge could later triple the damages against Samsung under federal law.
The judge, Lucy Koh, scheduled a hearing next month to consider Apple's request to make a permanent ban on U.S. sales of some Samsung devices, including its Galaxy Tab 10.1 computer.
Samsung said in a statement that the "verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer." Samsung will ask the judge to overturn the verdict and will appeal the case if it is not overturned.
