For a third consecutive year, Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines was recognized as one of the nation's "Most Wired Hospitals" by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Broadlawns was one of 25 hospitals recognized in the small and rural category. The annual survey is an industry standard benchmark study that measures the level of information technology adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems. Broadlawns has implemented a number of technologies to improve patient care in recent years, among them a patient identification system that uses palm vein scanning, an online patient medication management system, and an electronic medical records system. Iowa hospitals recognized on the list of 100 "Most Wired Hospitals" included University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids. UnityPoint Health, based in West Des Moines, was recognized as a Most Wired health system. Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames received a "Most Improved" designation.
