CenturyLink Inc. today announced plans to expand its global data center presence in eight markets this year.

A new data center in Minneapolis and expansion of a Chicago data center, among other expansions, will add more than 180,000 square feet to CenturyLink's total data center footprint of more than 2.5 million square feet. In addition to the new Minneapolis data center, which will open in May, the company opened a new data center in Phoenix in January and will open a new center in Toronto.

It's also expanding centers in Weehawken, N.J., Sterling, Va., Irvine, Calif., and Reading, England.
