The U.S. Commerce Department is investigating corporations' use of facial recognition, as part of the Obama administration's effort to implement the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights, according to a spokesman, VentureBeat reported. Facial-recognition technology automatically identifies a person based on a digital image of a still frame from a video source. Often, the use of such technology involves comparing the source image to a database that could potentially contain millions of image records. "It's like saying here is a person who I don't know. I'm going to figure out who it is [with the image]," Electronic Frontier Foundation staff attorney Lee Tien told VentureBeat.
