Passenger activity at Des Moines International Airport was up 3.6 percent year over year in October, according to numbers released by the airport yesterday. A total of 195,588 passengers flew into or out of the airport, up from 188,879 in the same month the previous year. Year to date, passenger activity is up 6.1 percent. A total of 1.84 million passenger have flown into or out of the airport. Cargo activity was down 1.7 percent in October from a year ago, and is down 3.9 percent for the first 10 months of the year. The Airport Authority yesterday also voted to begin charging fees next year to shuttles, taxis and other commercial vehicles who bring passengers to and from the airport,The Des Moines Register reported.
