The last 11 months of 2016 collectively posted lower vehicle registrations when compared with the same months of 2015, and the 12-month moving total has decreased 7,797 vehicles, 5.3 percent, to 138,539 units since January 2016, according to data compiled by the state Legislative Services Agency. Vehicle sales did bump up in January to 12,941 units from 11,445 in December. Annual new vehicle registrations declined significantly from 164,541 vehicles for the 12 months ending November 2004 to 98,618 for the 12 months ending December 2009. Growth in the annual number of new registrations turned positive with the May 2010 reading. While remaining below the previous peak, new vehicle registrations recovered significantly through the end of 2015, with registrations totaling 147,447 that year, according to the LSA report.
