Des Moines-based TMC Transportation, a private, family-owned trucking company, announced today that it will transition to an employee stock ownership plan to become an employee-owned company. TMC's CEO and founder, Harrold Annett, said in a release that establishing an ESOP enables him to create a succession plan that maintains the company's culture while rewarding employees for their dedication. Shares in the company will be distributed to all 2,700 employees at no cost; Annett said he will remain the majority owner of the shares. About 450 of the company's employees live in Iowa. "TMC employees have always been focused on quality and providing the best possible customer service," he said. "Now, as employee owners they will reap the benefits of their good work as the company continues to grow and prosper." The 41-year-old company specializes in flatbed transportation services and supply-chain management solutions throughout the 48 contiguous states.
