The iPad cometh

Apple Inc. has set an official date for the release of its highly anticipated iPad, CNNMoney.com reported.
Following months of speculation about when the device would become available to the public, Apple announced today that the date is April 3.
Those purchasing an iPad will have two options: one with Wi-Fi capabilities and another that can also connect to AT&T Inc.'s 3G network, though the second model won't be available in the United States until later in April, around the same time that the device will be released internationally.
Apple's chief executive, Steve Jobs, gushed over his company's new product, which has a 9.7-inch, full-color, high-resolution, LED-backlit screen and a price tag starting at nearly $500.
"We're excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before," he said in a statement.
Apple will begin accepting pre-orders for the iPad on March 12. On April 3, it will begin offering a free download of an iBooks application for the device.
It was originally expected to be released in March.
