$1.9 million grant to expand Iowa Health residency program

Iowa Health – Des Moines has been awarded a $1.9 million grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Primary Care Residency Expansion program to expand the primary care internal medicine residency program at its hospitals.

The funding is part of $320 million in grants to be awarded nationwide through the Affordable Care Act. Iowa Health will use the grant to support an increase of two residents per year in its internal medicine residency program; currently there are eight residents in each of the three years of the program.
