Gov. Kim Reynolds announced $2.94 million in grants were awarded to 46 training programs across the state through the Entry-Level Driver Training Program. The grants are intended to help meet the demand for truck and school bus drivers in Iowa. Organizations receiving grants will conduct commercial driver’s license training programs, either in-house or in conjunction with third-party providers. The programs will serve an estimated 1,642 individuals employed by the participating organizations, a news release said. Awardees include employers, nonprofits, local governments and school district organizations who employ CDL drivers in Iowa. In the Des Moines area, the city of Des Moines, Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, Heartland Co-Op, Rasmussen Group and MidAmerican Energy Co. received grants to offer training programs. Grant funding acts as a reimbursement following documented training certification and a CDL exam within 30 days of a participant’s last day of training.
