His role as a coach for Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping classes is relatively recent, but the combination of work and school is almost a tradition.
As he worked toward a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies at Iowa State University, Rodari also worked in Ames as a youth specialist at Lutheran Services in Iowa.
Now he’s taking classes at Drake University and planning to get a master’s degree in public administration in May 2011, while working as a human resources recruiter at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage through his position with Robert Half International.
A Des Moines native, Rodari took a full-time position with Lutheran Services after college. His next goal was to acquire corporate experience, and in 2007 he joined Principal Financial Group Inc. as a client service assistant and business unit recruiter.
He discovered, especially as he attended college career fairs in that job, that recruitment was his niche. “I always had a talent for being really approachable, and building and maintaining relationships,” he said.
Rodari serves on the board of Young Professionals Connection, where he specializes in the topic of diversity. He also plays a role in the Greater Des Moines Partnership Diversity Council. In these positions, he’s following in the footsteps of his father, Surasee Rodari, a Bankers Trust Co. vice president who came to Iowa from Thailand as a teenager and has done a great deal to promote fair treatment of Asian-Americans.
Rodari is a member of the City of Des Moines Youth Advisory Board, where he takes part in monthly discussions about schools. “We talk about how to make schools a more engaging environment,” he said, “and try to enable these kids to be leaders, to be more involved in the community.”
Rodari recently joined the board of Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa, an organization that focuses on the prevention of domestic abuse and violence.
