For Beckerman, the private dining director for Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, going the extra mile seems to be a natural part of her personality.

“I think the biggest part of what I do doesn’t stay within the four walls here,” Beckerman said. “I extend myself as a resource to the community. I see the value of being an up-and-coming business leader, and what that can contribute to the community as a whole.”

Among the organizations she’s involved with are the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce, the Food Bank of Iowa, West Des Moines Human Services, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Temple B’nai Jeshurun. She is currently competing to be the top female fund-raiser this year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2010 Woman of the Year award.

Through Beckerman, Fleming’s is often one of the first companies to offer charitable support to many efforts in West Des Moines and throughout the metro area, according to Linda Hulleman, executive director of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce. Beckerman was recently selected to serve on the chamber’s board of directors.

“The leadership of the West Des Moines chamber recognized early on that Edye was destined to become a stand-out in our community,” Hulleman said.

“Edye enjoys reaching out and serving the community, and is very proud of her community involvement,” wrote Jeff Pomeranz, city manager of West Des Moines. “Edye gives of her time, personal funds and corporate resources to support these entities.”

Beckerman, who has an associate’s degree in culinary arts from Des Moines Area Community College, has worked at Fleming’s since May 2005. She operated her own full-service catering business, Beckerman Catering, previous to joining the national restaurant chain.

“Fleming’s is an excellent company, and I plan to stay in the Des Moines area for quite some time,” Beckerman said. “This is where my passion is; I love the restaurant business as a whole. It’s always moving and changing, and that fits my lifestyle perfectly.”
