As director of marketing and media for the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Burt is responsible for raising awareness of the area on both the national and international levels. Among her most recent efforts, she partnered with the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Des Moines Art Center to promote an article about downtown development that appeared in The New York Times last week.
“I’m very proud of the work that I do here for the metro,” Burt said.
The Iowa State University graduate earned her public relations wings working as a communications intern and campaign support volunteer for the Chet Culver-Patty Judge campaign in 2006, and then worked for two years as the events coordinator for the governor, lieutenant governor and first lady. Before joining the Partnership last year, she worked for The Integer Group as a public relations account executive, representing the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
She was appointed by Gov. Culver in 2009 as a commissioner on the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, which “is an absolute honor, because I believe in the power of volunteering,” she said.
As the leadership training chair for the Junior League of Des Moines, she is responsible for the development of leadership skills and experiences for the chapter, and will serve as assistant director of training and education for the 2010-2011 board.
“For a women’s organization, Junior League has quite a legacy in our community, and it’s important for women to become engaged in the community, to receive the training they need to become a leader,” she said. “That’s why I’m very passionate about it.”
For the past two years she served on the board of the Des Moines Art Center’s Art Noir group, which is dedicated to engaging young adults in the art center’s programs. She also serves as co-chair of the development committee for Metro Arts Alliance.
Burt “has a passion for expanding and raising awareness of the arts and culture in the Des Moines metro area,” wrote Shawne Kleckner, president of Right Stuf International Inc.
