The native of Des Moines’ South Side joined the bank at the age of 19, lured by the promise of regular hours; her retail jobs up to that point often had her working into the night.

That was in 1990. Twenty years later, Van Loon is a vice president and consumer services manager at Bankers Trust’s South Side office at 655 E. Army Post Road.

In her primary role, Van Loon oversees a staff of 16 employees. She also manages the “rotating pool” staff, which consists of consumer services representatives and relationship bankers for 10 Bankers Trust branches. She serves on the company’s 401(k) advisory board and on its disaster recovery committee.

Van Loon graduated from the Iowa School of Banking in 1997. She moved to the South Side office after 11 years on the East Side, where she served as a personal banker and then moved up to assistant branch manager. She has collected a number of company awards over the years, including “Taking Ownership,” “Providing Solutions” and “Team Spirit” honors.

“Stacy is extremely dedicated to her job and always displays a high degree of integrity, responsibility and ambition,” wrote Bankers Trust CEO Suku Radia in a nominating letter. “I am impressed with Stacy’s enthusiasm, her work ethic as a young professional and the leadership skills she exemplifies.”

Away from work, Van Loon has spent many hours volunteering in schools; she was part of the Literacy Army at Lovejoy Elementary, is a classroom volunteer in the Indianola Community School District, helps Irving Elementary third-graders produce a newsletter and works with the “Read to Save” program at Moulton Extended Learning Center.

She also is a member of the South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, has been the district finance chair for the Bo Qui District of the Mid-Iowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and Meals From the Heartland.

Van Loon’s husband, Steve, works at Alcan Packaging on the East Side of Des Moines. They have two sons: Brock, 12; and Blake, 8.
