Age 39  |  Vice president and director of sales and marketing/Bankers Trust Co.

Bankers Trust Co. President and CEO Suku Radia uses the word “energy” to describe Jana Rieker, and it’s easy to see why.

It takes a healthy dose of energy to get up at 4:30 a.m. to teach kickboxing and other classes at the YMCA of Greater Des Moines Healthy Living Center. It takes even more to continue on after the morning workouts to serve as sales and marketing director of Bankers Trust and do volunteer activities with children.

A Central College graduate, Rieker took her position at Bankers Trust after working in sales and marketing at The Des Moines Register and Clear Channel Radio, and at Meredith Corp. before that.

Her role at Bankers Trust, she said, is not only to be the face of her company in the community, but also to represent the bank well in all the different programs it supports.

“We’re there, and not just to put our brand on it,” she said. “I couldn’t care less if the brand is in it so much as when an event is successful, we’re successful, because the community succeeds. It’s a different angle to marketing than most people will understand, but when you’re in this culture you really get it.”

Her passion is to work with children – she has a 9-year old and a 7-year-old of her own. Rieker serves on the Crestview Elementary School Parent Committee, and started a LEGO Club and boys’ book club at the school. She also coaches youth golf, baseball, softball and basketball.

Rieker has been involved with the National Agri-Marketing Association, American Marketing Association, the American Advertising Federation of Des Moines, the Women’s Leadership Institution, United Way’s Emerging Leaders Society and with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa.

So where does the energy come from?

“My parents were very good role models for saying ‘yes’ as many times as possible,” Rieker said. “Volunteer where you can; make an impact where you can. I think the energy just comes from not being afraid to try something new, and not being afraid to fail. It was a good role model that my parents played for me, and I hope to do the same thing for my kids.”
