Age 38  |  Lead organization development consultant, Principal Financial Group Inc.

Kristin Tague is a human resources professional with a stellar resume.

Following her time at the University of Iowa, where she earned a degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing, Tague put her education to use working at such companies as Farm Bureau Financial Services in West Des Moines and JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Columbus, Ohio.

As a lead consultant with Principal Financial Group Inc., she heads a team of e-learning professionals, among others, in that company’s human resources development and research area.

In 2003, Tague developed a corporate mentoring program that has been replicated in all of Principal’s business units.

A member of the Society for Human Resource Management since 1994, Tague also focuses on community outreach. She is involved with a number of local nonprofit organizations, including Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, where she leads a human resources team that was formed last June.

She’s part of the Organization Design Forum, which works to advance the field through partnerships, education and research. Tauge is certified in a number of leadership development assessments, including William Bridges’ Leadership Organizational Transition program. She earned a Core Essentials Graduate designation from Coach U, a provider of coach-training programs.

“In addition to the time Kristin commits to her professional career, she also commits a significant amount of her personal time to our community,” wrote Principal co-worker Jay Fogarty in his nomination of Tague for Forty Under 40.

Tague has served on the human resources committee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa since 2007, and is a member of United Way of Central Iowa’s Emerging Leaders Initiative. In 2008 and 2009, she served on the parent advisory council at Westwood Elementary School, which her children attend.

At work, she reports to Gary Walljasper, head of organization development. “As a leader, Kristin’s focus is on ensuring her team is challenged, has opportunities, feels connected and, most importantly, feels valued,” Walljasper said. “She places great importance on knowing her team at both the professional and personal levels, and makes it a point to help everyone create work-life balance.”
