2023 AIA Central States design award winners announced

Iowa Architecture firms were recently recognized by the American Institute of Architects Central States, which includes Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. The program honors design excellence within the states and elsewhere. The AIA Central States Jury, composed of Atlanta, Ga., architects, reviewed submissions from the five-state region. The Excellence in Design program is an annual event for architects who submit built and unbuilt projects for consideration. Local award winners include:

  • Adaptive Reuse Awards: 1201 Keo Way, Des Moines, by MA Architecture; Lincoln Savings Bank, Waterloo, by Invision Architecture.
  • Commercial Awards: MidAmerican Energy Company Training Center for Excellence, Adel, by Invision Architecture.
  • Interior Architecture Awards: 711 High St., Des Moines, by OPN Architects.
  • Large Commercial Awards: The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art, Iowa City, by BNIM Architects; Polk County Criminal Courts, Des Moines, by OPN Architects; Forest County Potawatomi Community Center, Crandon, Wis., by RDG Planning & Design.
  • Small Project Awards: Lake Como Park Pavilion, Fort Worth, Texas, by RDG Planning & Design.
