The site plan for a development that includes the construction of a 237-unit complex on a 12.3-acre parcel at South 81st Street and Booneville Road was approved this week by West Des Moines’ Planning and Zoning Commission. The complex, called Village at Sugar Creek Apartments, will include six three-story buildings, a clubhouse with pool and sport courts. The development is planned north of Des Moines University’s new campus, which is under construction and expected to be open in fall 2023. The apartment complex will sit on a hill that overlooks DMU’s new campus. The City Council must approve the site plan before construction begins.
