The Iowa Credit Union Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Iowa Credit Union League, recently announced the graduates of the 2022 People Helping People Financial Coach Program. Thirty-six attendees from 12 credit unions completed the program, which was conducted virtually in May. Participants were immersed in learning and simulation to help them grow in understanding how a person’s relationship with money can affect their financial decisions and lead to potential hardship. Financial coaches serve as member advocates who can help credit union members navigate difficult financial situations. The curriculum for the program was developed in partnership with Adam Carroll, founder of National Financial Educators in Des Moines. “The foundation strongly believes that Iowa credit unions can have a greater impact on the communities they serve by providing thorough financial coaching, helping members set financial goals and determining the best way forward when situations seem dire,” said Ena Babic Barnes, executive director of ICUF.
