The students, Julianna Rosendahl, Aidan Rosendahl, Ava Rosendahl and Bailey Johnson, qualified after three of them placed first and one placed third at the U.S. Budo Karate Association National Tournament in Arizona earlier this year. “We’re incredibly proud of these students,” Seth Rosendahl, a sensei with the Traditional Karate Academy, said in a prepared statement. “Competing on the world stage is a huge honor and reflects their hard work, discipline and the core values we teach at our dojo. This is a significant moment not only for them but for our entire martial arts community in Des Moines.” According to a press release, the dojo community and sensei’s family church funded the students’ travel and competition costs, allowing them to compete in Spain from Oct. 23-27.
