The Catalyst Circle, whose members include high-profile community leaders, creates endowments that support projects or causes with long-lasting community impact, according to its website. Kyle Krause, who would own the USL Championship soccer franchise, and his wife, Sharon, are Catalyst Circle members. Kristi Knous, president of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, told the Des Moines Register, that the Krauses were not in the room when the project was discussed and abstained from voting. With the Catalyst Circle grant, the Iowa Soccer Development Foundation has raised $14.2 million for the project, according to a news release. The foundation will own the Pro Iowa Soccer Stadium and surrounding Global Plaza. Backers of the project are also seeking funding through the Iowa Reinvestment District Program.
