Index of Iowa economic growth rounds to zero for 6th straight month

The Iowa Leading Indicators Index increased to 108.4 in September from a revised 108.3 in August, according to a release from the Iowa Department of Revenue. Despite the increase in the level of the index, the monthly percentage change rounded to zero for the sixth consecutive month. With five of the eight components contributing positively, the monthly diffusion index decreased to 56.3 in September from 62.5 in August. The annualized six-month change improved to 0.2 percent in September from negative 0.4 percent in August, returning into positive territory after three consecutive months of sub-zero values. The five components that made a positive contribution to the overall index were, in the order from largest contributor to smallest, the agricultural futures profits index, diesel fuel consumption, the new orders index, average weekly unemployment claims and the national yield spread.
