The drive-thru event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. today at Evelyn K. David Park and continue until supplies run out. According to a news release, each meal kit will include cans of corn and green beans, stuffing mix, a voucher for a turkey, fresh rolls and pumpkin pie that can be picked up in-store. Each kit will make a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four. “Urban Dreams is delighted to be able to team up with Hy-Vee, Des Moines branch of the NAACP, the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, and Starts Right Here to provide several hundred families in our community with a Thanksgiving meal,” said Izaah Knox, executive director at Urban Dreams. “Especially this year, where COVID-19 has impacted so many, we are proud to assist families as they safely celebrate the holiday with their loved ones.” Urban Dreams is also leading the Cedar Rapids Thanksgiving meal pack distribution on Wednesday, Knox said in an email.
