The American Heart Association has launched a new year-round activation of its annual fundraising campaign, the Greater Des Moines Heart Ball. The new ongoing Heart of Greater Des Moines campaign will feature multiple touch points throughout the year focused on taking action to target hypertension and education of hands-only CPR, and will culminate with the Heart Ball event in June 2021. Sponsored by OnMedia and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines, Heart of Greater Des Moines is chaired by Bob Montgomery, vice president and general manager of OnMedia. The campaign’s dollar goal this year is to raise $300,000. “Our vision for the Heart of Greater Des Moines campaign is to dive deep into issues that our community faces and bring together our combined strength to drive change and make a difference,” said Montgomery. “This year we will be putting a spotlight on reducing blood pressure, driving longer, healthier lives through CPR, and the effects of COVID-19.” One in every three Iowans has been told by a health professional that they have high blood pressure.
