The city of Ankeny issued building permits valued at more than $423 million in 2020, topping the previous record of $416 million set in 2019, city officials announced. Overall, the city issued a record 3,220 construction permits in 2020, surpassing the previous record of 2,719 set in 2016. “These results would be amazing in a ‘regular’ year but the level of investment is even more impressive considering the pandemic,” City Manager David Jones said in a prepared statement. In addition, Ankeny issued 742 building permits for single-family houses, the highest number issued in the past 15 years and the fourth-highest total ever. Also, permits were issued for 375 townhomes, 62 multifamily units and 22 new commercial buildings.
