Blank Children’s Hospital adds second pediatric orthopedic surgeon
Blank Children’s Hospital announced it has added a second pediatric orthopedic surgeon to its team. Dr. Shannon O’Brien joins Dr. Lael Luedtke, who started the clinic in October 2020 when Blank Children’s Hospital joined with Shriners Children’s Twin Cities to begin providing pediatric orthopedic care to children in Central Iowa. The Blank Children’s Orthopaedic Clinic is a full-time clinic located on the Blank Children’s Hospital campus in Des Moines. The physicians for the clinic are provided by Shriners Children’s and offer a wide range of pediatric orthopedic care including fractures, hip dysplasia, spine conditions, cerebral palsy and issues that arise due to gait abnormality, among others. O’Brien has been practicing in pediatric orthopedics for 18 years and her special interests include fractures, skeletal dysplasia, correction of angular abnormalities and scoliosis. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University and completed medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. O’Brien continued her medical training as a resident in orthopedic surgery at University of Louisville and fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
