Des Moines Register: Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Ahart is asking the school board to reject a round of construction bids from contractors because each exceeds the district’s budget for a planned stadium at Drake University. The total cost of the stadium to be built next to the Knapp Center is projected to be $19.5 million, including construction, architecture and design, utilities, furnishings, permits, inspections and other necessities. The district will pay $15 million from a sales tax fund called SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education), and Drake will raise the remaining $4.5 million through private donations.
