Reflection is when we take time for ourselves in a way that gives us information about who we truly are. By reflection, I’m talking about some daily practice that accomplishes two or three of the following objectives: clearing your mind, relaxing your body and opening your heart.

I struggled with my own daily practice of reflection, in part because I was stuck in the belief that I had to have one practice that I committed to every day. I know some people who practice meditation every day or practice yoga every day, but I found myself wanting variety. Finally, the aha moment! I discarded my belief that I was required to do the same practice, and replaced it with a commitment to some form of daily reflective practice. For me, some days my reflective practice is mediation, other days it is yoga, or a hot tub, or a walk with my dog in the park.

During reflection you might stop and ask yourself questions like:

  • What am I feeling?
  • What do I value in life?
  • What is my life’s purpose?
  • Are my actions in alignment with my values?
  • What are my true intentions?

Reflection provides the time to quiet our minds and listen. It opens creativity. Reflection promotes a better connection with self. I hope you will take some time out of your busy life to reflect and ask yourself some of these questions.
