If you’re hoping to get some cleaning out done over the holiday weekend, keep in mind that Goodwill is open — and busy. The final week of the year is the busiest period for donations at Goodwill of Central Iowa, and the nonprofit last year accepted 44,650 individual donations in December alone, according to a news release. Donations are accepted at 18 retail store locations, with the Des Moines Outlet Store the only location that does not accept donations. Stores will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to allow employees to celebrate the holiday. Go to the website for instructions on what items are accepted and more.
