The building is part of a proposed $9 million development called the Oaks on Grand. Three buildings are planned on the 11-acre site, located between Booneville Road and Grand Avenue. The development is just east of the Des Moines Area Community College West campus. The property is being developed by its owner, developer Jonathan Galloway. The exterior of the first building planned in the development will be constructed primarily within a “glass and metal rainscreen panel system,” according to information provided to the commission. The exterior will be accented with vertical wood cladding and steel columns. The back side of the building will overlook a pond. In addition, a patio and amphitheater space are planned along the back side of the building, according to information submitted to the city. The site plan now goes to the City Council.
