Des Moines Register: Though every neighborhood in Polk County saw average home values go up this spring, Des Moines residents were hit with higher property tax reassessments than their suburban peers, a Des Moines Register analysis shows. Thirty-four neighborhoods in Des Moines, three in rural Polk County and one each in Grimes and Windsor Heights saw an average increase of 12% or higher in their 2021 home valuations, according to the analysis of data from the Polk County assessor. And the highest increases are not in sought-after neighborhoods like Beaverdale, Waveland and Waterbury. The largest average assessment hike, 16%, was south of Army Post Road near the airport, followed by 14.4% in a northeast Des Moines neighborhood near Grand View University.
