Dose Steelworks, which makes Headhunter brand trailers, corn reels and rock boxes for farmers, has announced plans to expand to Story City. According to a news release, the company will adapt a 100,000-square-foot building for a manufacturing facility after outgrowing its current location in Bouton, where it was established 15 years ago. The project represents a $4.7 million capital investment, and is expected to employ 30 people. Brett Dose, the company’s owner, said that the company needed a much larger facility and that the project was made possible with the help of the Ames Economic Development Commission, the state of Iowa, city of Story City and Story City Economic Development. “At all levels they have worked with us to make this project happen,” he said. “We are looking forward to serving our customers from our new facility located along the Interstate 35 corridor in Story City.” Dan Culhane, president and CEO of the Ames Economic Development Commission, said the project provides a mutual benefit to the company and Story City. “The Story City community gains a quality, family-owned company, and the business takes on a large, mostly under-utilized facility, that will suit their growth for many years to come,” he said. “It is always gratifying when projects come together and everyone wins.”
