Registration open for NCMIC’s Battle of the ‘Burbs
After its postponement in 2020, NCMIC’s Battle of the ‘Burbs run is back this year, the company announced. This year’s race, expected to be the largest yet, will be held Aug. 7 beginning at 9 a.m. on the NCMIC campus, 14001 University Ave. in Clive. The contest pits the suburban communities of Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines against one another in a competition to earn support for their community’s betterment efforts. The cities each sponsor the 10K, 5K and Kids Fun Run event with runners designating one city to run for (they can also support all five). Sponsorship money raised, in addition to the registration fees, supports local nonprofits and other community projects. In 2019, the race sold out, doubling both the number of participants and the money raised from 2018, with 503 runners participating across the three races. The event raised $55,730 to support the Clive Community, Waukee Betterment and West Des Moines community foundations. This year, prizes will be awarded to the top runners in each age category for men and women in the 5K and 10K. The deadline to register is Aug. 6. To register, visit the Battle of the ‘Burbs site at ncmic.com/battle before it sells out.
