Visitors to the home show can tour six houses constructed by five area homebuilders in Great Western Crossing, a new development located at 317 N. 36th St. in Cumming’s Middlebrook Farms, an agrihood that includes residential developments centered around working farms and community gardens. Agrihoods are described as a tool for building community, nourishing people with healthy food, and teaching people about agriculture.
Great Western Crossing includes houses inspired by the design of homes found in rural Iowa, according to a release by the Home Builders Association. The development includes a blend of modern, transitional and traditional housing styles. Many of the houses include front porches and pitched roofs.
The HomeShowExpo’s Charity Block Party will be held July 20 and will include home tours, food, beverages and a concert by Big Time Grain. Home tours are from 3:30 to 7 p.m.; the concert begins at 7 p.m. The charities that are being supported include Folds of Honor, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Safe Families for Children, and Build My Future/Iowa Skilled Trades. Tickets for the block party are $60.
Hours of the HomeShowExpo are 1 to 9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The event will also be held July 23-25. More information about the event, including how to purchase tickets, can be found here.
