Kim Reynolds has named a new commandant for the Iowa Veterans Home, after removing the facility’s previous leader without explanation earlier this year. In a news release sent Monday evening, Reynolds said she has named Major Matthew Peterson to be the commandant at the nursing facility for Iowa veterans, effective today. Peterson’s appointment will be subject to confirmation by the Iowa Senate. Peterson is a fifth-generation Iowan from Red Oak who retired from the military after serving 20 years in the Marine Corps.
