Architecture firms in the U.S. saw increased demand for design services in June, according to a new report from the American Institute of Architects. The group’s Architecture Billings Index score for June remained at 57.1; any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings. Business conditions remained robust at firms in all regions of the U.S., with companies located in the Midwest reporting the strongest growth for the fourth consecutive month. The average billings index score for architecture firms in the Midwest was 62, the highest of the four regions. Firms in the Northeast posted an average index score of 53.2, the lowest of the four regions. A growing concern among architecture firms nationwide is the inability to fill open positions. “As market conditions grow, architecture firms and contractors not being able to find enough workers to meet the higher workloads may slow the processes of design and building,” Jessica Reinert, AIA Iowa’s executive director, said in a prepared statement. Read the report.
