Construction has started on a 277,930-square-foot build-to-suit industrial facility that will be occupied by Brown Warehouse Co., Opus Group announced. 

The building is the fourth built by Opus in Ankeny. The Minneapolis-based commercial real estate development, construction and design company recently completed its third building in Corporate Woods Industrial Park, north of Southeast Corporate Woods Drive and east of Southeast Convenience Boulevard.

The new industrial building will be located in Swanwood Industrial Park, located south of Southeast Corporate Woods Drive and east of Interstate Highway 35.

Construction of the facility, which will include parking spaces, 24 dock doors and two drive-in doors, is expected to be completed by April 2022.

Brown Warehouse Co., with locations in Grimes and Des Moines, will relocate its workforce from three other locations to the Ankeny facility.

“Our team is excited about our new building and its convenient interstate access,” said Taylor Brown, president of Brown Truck Leasing Corp., the parent of Brown Warehouse, in a prepared statement. “By consolidating our previous locations, our workforce and business will be able to grow into this new space and ultimately better serve our clients.”

Opus owns an additional 25 acres adjacent to facility that Brown will occupy. Plans include construction of a speculative building with 296,360 square feet of space and 184 parking spaces. Construction of the building is expected to begin yet this summer with completion next June.
