Residents renew calls for D.M. City Council to take action over private security contract

116 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawDes Moines Register: Despite Des Moines City Council members voicing trepidation last week over the future of the city’s contract with a private security firm after its CEO sent emails to city officials harshly disparaging participants in last year’s racial justice protests, several residents Monday night expressed disappointment that the council has yet to act on the report. Councilors tabled a discussion of extending and more than doubling the city’s contract with the Conley Group last week, with city staff telling the Register that, as the city continues its investigation into Tom Conley’s comments and further considers the city’s options, “there will not be an item on a council agenda … until that process is concluded.”
