“We did some research with our college students and we realized that out of the kids we interviewed — about 20 — only two four-year college seniors had potential job offers,” said Pi515 founder and director Nancy Mwirotsi, presenting with five students at July 7’s 1 Million Cups event. “We asked, ‘Did anyone talk to you?’ Employers have to realize that they’re missing this talent. A girl in my circle applied to around 1,000 jobs in Des Moines, went to Iowa State [University], did not get an IT job here. Tesla called her for a job. We didn’t see that talent here, but Tesla did.”
